High on the
list of problems of allergies is definitely allergy to
cow's milk. Allergy to cow's
milk is actually allergy
to cow's milk protein! Cow's
milk contains completely different
proteins then human
milk and the potential risk for the baby.
Milk allergy symptoms can be fast, seen in the first hours of first contact with cow's milk, but sometimes they can be treacherous, postponed, and not seen days or weeks after use of cow's milk. The reaction, which we call FAST happens that day (less the next day) and is seen as a skin rash (usually starts around the mouth), sometimes accompanied by a discreet lip swelling. It is also possible that the baby gets diarrhea and "sudden" appearance of convulsions.
Breastfeeding is the
best form of prevention. Extended
breastfeeding reduces the likelihood of
allergy to cow's milk
in the subsequent months and years of a child's life. It is recommended
not to rush the introduction of
cow's milk. The
vast majority of pediatric and
nutritionists agree that the
first year is not for the
"pure" cow's milk!
This is also true for the diluted
milk because cow's milk mixed with water does not reduce the allergic potential of cow milk protein.
An allergy
is cured easily -
eliminating cow's milk and products made from cow's milk!
